Wire we buy

We buy surplus tray cable and VFD cable

Tray cable and VFD cable are industrial materials bought against a specific drive or tray schedule. When a plant project changes, those reels become surplus quickly — and they are among the most useful lots we see.

01Overview

What Tray / VFD surplus usually is

Tray cable (TC and the exposed-run rated TC-ER) is a factory assembly of insulated conductors with an overall jacket, rated for installation in cable tray and, in the ER construction, for exposed runs between tray and equipment. PLTC is the lower-power version used for instrumentation and control circuits in tray.

VFD cable is a shielded, symmetrical drive cable built to carry power from a variable-frequency drive to a motor without radiating noise. It is ordered in exact lengths against a drive list, which is why plant projects that get re-scoped leave full reels behind.

Send these with the quote request

  • Photos of the reel tags, spool labels or printed jacket legend so the wire type can be read exactly.
  • One photo of the whole reel, spool or pallet so quantity and packaging are visible.
  • Gauge or MCM, conductor metal (copper or aluminum), voltage rating and conductor count where known.
  • Approximate footage, reel count or total weight, plus the condition and how it is stored.
  • City and ZIP code where the material sits, plus loading access (dock, forklift, ground level).

How this material is quoted

What we need to identify a VFD cable

VFD cable is specified by conductor size, conductor count, shield type and voltage. The jacket legend usually carries all of it, sometimes in a single dense line. A close, sharp photo of that legend — plus the reel tag if it is still wired on — is what lets us confirm the construction instead of assuming it from the color of the jacket.

Tray cable condition notes

Tray cable is often stored outdoors on racks because it is ordered for outdoor runs. Sun exposure, standing water inside the jacket ends and crushed outer jackets all matter. If the reel has been opened, tell us whether the end was sealed or left open to the weather.

Where these lots come from

Industrial plants and processing facilities during expansions and turnarounds, mine sites, gas processing and compressor stations, water and wastewater plants, and the electrical contractors who serve them. Data-center and manufacturing fit-outs also produce tray and VFD surplus when a drive package changes mid-project.

04Questions

Tray / VFD questions sellers ask

Do you buy VFD cable without the reel tag?

If the jacket legend is readable we can usually identify the construction. If neither the tag nor the legend is legible, the lot is priced as unknown industrial cable, which is a much weaker number.

Is PLTC worth buying separately?

Yes in quantity. Small partial spools of PLTC are usually best sold as part of a larger mixed lot rather than on their own.

Quote your tray / vfd lot

Tell us the size, metal, voltage and footage, and attach photos of the tags. If something is unknown, leave it blank and describe it in the notes.

Send what you know. Exact footage and footage-per-reel are ideal, but a photo of the tag and one of the whole reel is enough for us to start. Fields marked * are required.
