What drives surplus wire in northeastern wyoming

The Powder River Basin around Gillette and Wright supports some of the largest surface coal mines in the United States, along with the shops, contractors and processing facilities that serve them. Mine and plant electrical work produces large-gauge feeder cable, tray cable, VFD cable and control cable, often with substantial footage left on reels when a project changes.

Sheridan and Buffalo add a different mix: commercial and institutional construction, agriculture, and the electrical contractors who serve both, with surplus that looks much more like building wire and MC cable than mine power.
